What you should bring

Perfect Birthday Adventure!

Rated 5.0 out of 5
29th October 2019

I took my son on a 16th birthday trip down the Zambezi in August with Water by Nature, and what a gift it was for both of us! We are seasoned whitewater adventurers, and are familiar with many outfitters around the world, and Water by Nature is at the top of our list. Hamish, the owner, kindly fielded questions from across the pond during the planning stage and the on-the-ground crew in Zambia was among the best I’ve ever encountered. From drivers (Evans) to porters (Mukuma) to guides (Isaac, Kavius, and Darwin) to the best operations manager EVER (Lovemore), I have never known a crew to be more friendly, flexible, accomplished, or hard-working. I so appreciated their capacity to quickly assess guests’ skill-level and adapt options to ensure all were both challenged and safe. The camps where we overnighted were beautiful, the meals healthful and plentiful, and the staff vigilantly followed ethical Leave No Trace protocols. One example of their commitment to going the extra mile was their treatment of guests whose luggage had been lost by the airlines: Water by Nature’s ground staff maintained contact with the airlines while we were on the river, sourced the missing bags, picked them up from the airport in our absence, and arranged to have porters hike the bags into the Batoka Gorge mid-trip to reunite guests with their gear. It was a model of customer service that went above-and-beyond, as was the London staff’s willingness to bookend our river trip with alternate activities, handling all arrangements on our behalf from tour scheduling to hotel reservations. Truly one-stop shopping! We look forward not just to our next adventure with Water by Nature, but also to furthering our newfound friendships with their stellar staff. Good humans, all.

River Guides as impressive as the Mighty Zambezi River!

Rated 5.0 out of 5
10th September 2019

The team of guides from Water by Nature gave us the power to tame the wild beast in the Zambezi River! I go on a lot of adventure trips and Water by Nature is at the top of the list of guides.

We had a mixed level of experience in our team of 7 but the crew took the time to guide, instruct and coach the team to get everyone up to speed and in rhythm within the first hour of hitting the river, which is a good thing because the action started right about that time. They also had a hyper focus on safety, checking our lifejackets and helmets before every major rapid to make sure they were secure. To their credit, none of us was thrown and there were no flips on the 4 days of rafting despite August being the most intense rapids all year.

But they went above and beyond just getting us down the river safely. Their guidance enriched our appreciation of their great culture, rich history and natural beauty that could have been missed in our rush down the river. They were true ambassadors for their countries and we were lucky that we had them leading our trip.

If you are thinking of rafting the Zambesi River but have any doubts, talk to the team at Water by Nature because they will give you the skills and confidence to enjoy the fun that it offers!
