Why We Created Our New Amalfi Coast & Capri Sailing Adventure

At Water By Nature, we don’t create trips sitting behind a desk.

We create them by travelling, exploring, sailing, eating, hiking and occasionally getting completely distracted by an excellent ice cream shop.

Our newest adventure, the Amalfi Coast & Capri Sailing Vacation, is a perfect example.

Recently Holly and I spent time exploring this spectacular stretch of coastline, sailing between beautiful harbours, discovering hidden restaurants and asking ourselves one simple question:

“If we brought our guests here, what would they absolutely love?”

The answer came quickly.

Amalfi Coast, Italy. View of the Amalfi Coast from Ravello village.

More Than Just a Beautiful Coastline

The Amalfi Coast is one of those rare destinations that somehow manages to exceed expectations.

Everyone has seen the photographs.

Colourful buildings stacked impossibly on steep hillsides.

Tiny harbours filled with fishing boats.

Dramatic cliffs plunging into the Mediterranean.

But what the photos don’t show is the atmosphere.

The smell of fresh coffee drifting through narrow alleyways in the morning.

The laughter coming from waterfront restaurants late into the evening.

The feeling of wandering through a town with absolutely nowhere you need to be.

It’s Italy at its very best.

Why Explore by Yacht?

There are plenty of ways to visit the Amalfi Coast.

Most involve sitting in traffic.

Lots of traffic.

The roads along the coast are spectacular, but they can also be incredibly busy.

By yacht, everything changes.

The coastline reveals itself exactly as it was meant to be seen.

We can arrive in beautiful places such as Positano, Amalfi and Capri directly from the water. We can swim in secluded bays, stop for lunch in hidden restaurants accessible only by boat and wake up each morning somewhere completely different.

For us, sailing is not simply transport.

It’s part of the adventure itself.

Beautiful view of Amalfi coast, Italy. Amalfi town with colorful architecture on the rocks. Yachts and boats in the port. Famous travel destination.

Naples and Pompeii

Before we step aboard the yacht, our journey begins in Naples.

There is an energy to Naples that is difficult to describe. It is vibrant, chaotic, fascinating and home to some of the best pizza on the planet.

We’ll spend time exploring the city before visiting the remarkable ruins of Pompeii.

Buried beneath volcanic ash following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii offers one of the most fascinating windows into ancient Roman life anywhere in the world.

It’s the perfect way to begin the trip.

Positano, Capri and the Islands

Once aboard the yacht, the pace of life slows immediately.

Positano is every bit as beautiful as you’ve imagined.

Capri offers a wonderful blend of glamour, history and spectacular scenery.

Ischia surprises visitors with its thermal springs and relaxed atmosphere.

Procida, often overlooked by visitors, quickly became one of our favourite stops with its colourful harbour and authentic Italian charm.

Each destination feels different.

Each has its own personality.

Together they create a wonderful journey along one of Europe’s most iconic coastlines.

The Food

Let’s be honest.

One of the reasons people visit Italy is to eat.

And rightly so.

Fresh seafood.

Handmade pasta.

Local wines.

Pizza.

Gelato.

Lemon sorbet.

Long lunches overlooking the sea.

Relaxed dinners in family-run restaurants.

This trip includes plenty of opportunities to enjoy all of it.

Some of our favourite moments during the recce weren’t on the yacht at all. They were around a table, sharing a meal and watching the world go by.

Pizza Napoli – Neapolitan Pizza: Authentic thin-crust pizza topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil.

Small Groups, Big Experiences

Like all Water By Nature adventures, this trip is designed around small groups.

That allows us to remain flexible, enjoy more personal experiences and spend time in places that larger groups often miss.

It also creates the friendly atmosphere that has become such a big part of our trips over the years.

Looking Ahead

Our scheduled departures operate in May when the Mediterranean is warming up but before the peak summer crowds arrive.

We’re also excited to be planning a special America’s Cup departure in July 2027 for sailing enthusiasts wanting to combine one of the world’s great sailing events with one of Europe’s great coastlines.

For us, the Amalfi Coast & Capri Sailing Adventure brings together everything we love about travel.

Great sailing.

Wonderful food.

Fascinating history.

Beautiful scenery.

And plenty of opportunities for pizza and ice cream along the way.

Honestly, what more could you want?

A Life Spent Outside and Why It Still Matters

Recently, I was featured in the Sunday Times, reflecting on a life that, in many ways, has been spent outside rather than in. It felt slightly surreal reading it back. Not because it wasn’t accurate, but because it made me stop and think about just how much of my life has been shaped by rivers, […]

How Do You See a Country Like Australia?

Australia isn’t a place you “tick off.” It’s too big. Too varied. Too full of contrast. The real question isn’t where should you go?It’s how do you even begin to experience a country like this? Because Australia isn’t one journey. It’s many, all layered together. Start With The Cities, But Don’t Stay There Melbourne and […]

Off-the-Beaten-Path Holidays: Remote Destinations Worth Travelling For

More travellers are turning away from crowded hotspots and looking instead for something quieter, more meaningful, and a little harder to reach. Search trends and booking patterns are shifting toward remote, experience-led travel.  The kind of trips where you disconnect, reset, and come back with stories that actually feel personal. If you’re wondering where to […]
