Chrish Shrestha

Senior guide & safety kayaker

Where do you call home?

I am from Damside on the banks of the Bhote Kosi River in Nepal

What do you love most about multi-day trips?

I love getting away with a great group of people and sharing with them, the wonderful rivers of Nepal. One of the best parts is hiking into the Tamur River and watching the sunrise over the Himalayas. Amazing!

When did you start working for Water By Nature?

In 2010.

Your best river meal you like to prepare?

Since working with the international guides who work with Water By Nature, I have learned to cook so many more meals. My favourites now are lasagna and banoffee pie (not together!) But I do love cooking our traditional Nepali Dhal bhat for guests on the trip.

Favourite Rapid?

Jailhouse & Godshouse on the Karnali River

Most important piece of equipment you take on every adventure?

My Watershed drybag

Biggest achievement to date?

We had an amazing trip on the Tamur in 2014 with American guests. We had porter problems on the hike and some donkeys which had client drybags on them, fell off a cliff, so it was awesome to be able to sort those problems out for our guests despite it being a really challenging day. I love to keep in touch with all of the clients who raft with us.

What do you do when you are not on the river?

I spend time with my family.

Favourite rafting trips?

I can’t decide between the Karnali and the Tamur!

Anywhere still on the rafting ‘bucket list’?

The Grand Canyon
