Senior Trip Leader

Where do you call home?

Rotorua New Zealand

What do you love most about multi-day trips?

It all about the journey for me. Travelling down a remote river being a self sufficient camping cook with company and running amazing rapids each and every day. What more could you want.

When did you start working for Water By Nature?

May 2009 on the Coruh river in Turkey.

Your best river meal you like to prepare?

Well, that’s hard to say they are all good! But if I had to narrow it down, my breakfast omelettes are hard to beat for those big days on the water!

Favourite Rapid?

Number 7 on the Zambezi

Most important piece of equipment you take on every adventure?

My multi tool and duck tape.

Biggest achievement to date?

Being a Dad

What do you do when you are not on the river?

Kayaking or canyoning, traveling and adventuring with my family.

Favourite band?

Rage against the machine

Best River story?

Well I didn’t know what my best story is. Multi day expedition, for me is not just about the great whitewater on a trip but also the culture and nature we are surrounded by. Being  a ‘kiwi’ we don’t have a great diversity of wild life so some of my biggest highlights…..waking up on a beautiful beach on the Sun Kosi in Nepal and finding Tiger footprints in the sand and share in everyone’s nervous excitement over a cooked breakfast. Imagine my first encounter with a snake (we don’t have snakes in New Zealand) was when a 4 metres python swam straight under my raft in Australia !!! Sharing my office with baboon’s, crocodile, elephants and hippo in Zambia is just mind blowing and truly a privilege.

Favourite rafting trips?

Tamur river, Nepal.

Anywhere still on the rafting ‘bucket list’?

So many places…..Futaleufu Chile, Peru, Alaska, Madagascar…..the list goes on.

Tell us something other people may not know about you?

Well the last 12 years off my life I have been travelling and following my passion for whitewater and the rafting industry. What people may not know, is I could not have done it alone. I have a wonderful and supportive wife who I share many of adventures with…..the greatest of this adventure is our two kids Elijah and Fern.
