Take a journey with us into the spectacular country of Colombia. We’ve had a fascination with this wonderful country for years and we are now pleased to offer a world class white water rafting and multi-active adventure to this fascinating land. Colombia is now on the ‘bucket list’ of many international adventurers to see it in an unspoiled state. This multi-active adventure takes in the Rio Verde and the threatened Rio Samana where we get to run the best whitewater in the country. You’ll overnight on the river in unique hanging hammocks on the banks of the river, where our team of local and international guides will prepare you a feast from the coolers. After your river trip, you’ll get to visit the Rio Clara Nature Reserve with its huge array of unique flora and fauna. The start and finish points for our Colombian adventure is Medellin, a wonderful city embracing the change from its fascinating history.

What you will be up to

Fly to Medellin’s José Maria Córdova International Airport. Stay at your stunning hotel and explore this wonderful city.
Included: Dinner.

After breakfast, we begin a tour of Medellin and visiting the stunning Botanical Gardens. An option exists to tandem paraglide today for an even better perspective on this wonderful city. We visit many of this
cities great sites. We dine in the city’s award-winning restaurant, and stay at a luxurious hotel in the heart of Medellin.

3 & 4

Depart for the Rio Verde. Access the canyon by hiking for an hour while mules transport our gear. We run this pristine river in a tropical jungle paradise. Enjoy a captivating two-day descent on exhilarating class IV whitewater. Visit waterfalls, lagoons, and secluded beaches ideal for wildlife and birds. Camp in sheltered hammocks and savor gourmet meals cooked by the river. At the end of the second day, arrive at Puente Samana, the only road access over the river. Drive to spend the night at Rio Claro Nature Reserve, where you rest in a gorgeous room overlooking the river canyon and rainforest canopy. Included: All meals

Return to the same take-out and put-in for the Samana canyon. Experience countless big-water class IV+ rapids. Arrive to our secluded jungle camp and enjoy a relaxing ambiance at our secret swimming hole before resting in sheltered hammocks.

Paddle and take out at Narrises, a Colombian village proud of its waterfall. Drive out on a 4 x 4 Road to the village of San Rafael. Overnight in your private cabana on an eco-resort and permaculture farm.

Enjoy an array of options for your day: on-site yoga, horseback riding through a coffee farm, or crosscountry mountain biking through orchards. We’ll visit an informative coffee museum, and coffee tours on site. Return to Medellin and stay at our hotel. Final meal and party.

The next morning, enjoy your last moments in Colombia before departing Medellin from José Maria Córdova International Airport.

Many airlines offer flights to Medellin (MDE), such as Iberia from the UK or contact Trailfinders for your best flight options. Your trip starts and finishes in Lima. We also recommend contacting the excellent and competitive folks at Exito Travel. Many operators also offer flights from the US, but we suggest for the best deals check out Skyscanner. What you should bring

We find most of our clients have in their posession already what is needed for a river journey. We have broken down here the items into what you’ll need on the river and in camp. An equipment list of what you will require for your adventure will be sent to you prior to your departure.

River wear:

A pair of trainers or Keens that cover your toes and provide grip on wet rocks.
1 pair of river shorts (longer leg length) shorts can be purchased from our online Water Shop.
Swimming costume or bikini for ladies.
Long sleeved thermal top and bottoms to wear under your personal floatation device. Capilene, Polypropylene or Merino wool is best. (not cotton)
A rash vest (not cotton) as an alternative to the thermal layer.
A baseball cap for under the helmet to keep sun off – can be purchased from our online Water Shop.
Sunglasses.
Chums for fastening your sunglasses to your head – can be purchased on line.
1 Litre Nalgene / Sigg or similar water bottle or Camel-back hydration system.
Carabiner for fastening water bottle to your boat.
Waterproof camera such as GoPro for the ‘action’ shots
Waterproof sunscreen and lip balm SPF30 minimum.

Around Camp and Hiking to the river:

2 pairs of light weight pants or trekking trousers.
2 Lightweight tops – long sleeved shirts or t shirts.
Fleece or wool jumper.
Light weight down jacket.
Rain jacket
Shorts.
Wide brimmed sun hat.
Underwear.
Woollen socks
A 3-season sleeping bag. (Can be hired in advance)
Travel Pillow.
Walking shoes.
Trainers, flipflops for wearing around camp.
Thermal top and bottoms. (Good to sleep in)

You do not need to bring tents + sleeping mats.

We provide personal floatation jackets and helmets.

Personal items:

Glasses or Contact lenses. Disposable lenses are ideal.
Toiletries. Toothbrush, toothpaste, biodegradable soap and shampoo.
Forget the cosmetics and hair dryer! But we do suggest moisturizer.
Hand wipes and a small bottle of hand sanitiser.
Small pack towel.
Insect Repellent.
Personal first aid kit.
Headlamp or head torch with spare batteries.

Optional:

Your favourite book/kindle or a journal for recording your river memories.
Sketchpad.
Binoculars.
Photographic or video equipment. We recommend a cleaning kit as sand gets everywhere.
Spare memory card.
Solar or portable charger.
Padded cycle shorts.
Loose fitting Yoga clothes.
Zip lock bags to keep valuables dry and sand free.
Rehydration tablets (Phizz, Nuun and O.R.S are easily available)
The only money that you need to bring is for meals in town, souvenirs, DVD, personal items, gratuities and the beer kitty for the raft trip if you drink.
Basically, we advise you to keep things as light as possible, without skimping on the necessities. It is great to bring back a load of goodies for everybody back at home.
