Tatshenshini River
This trip is a spectacular expedition into the North American Wilderness. Crossing the Alaskan/Yukon border the Tatshenshini takes you on a journey where you'll paddle past the towering snow-capped peaks of the Alsek range, past cracking and calving glaciers and past the animals of the area, grizzly bears, bald eagles, moose and many more. This is our most northerly trip, so is very different from the big warm waters of many of our destinations, but is a stunning adventure through one of the largest wilderness areas in the world. You can camp within sight of the majestic icebergs of the Alsek Lake, hike up 1,000 for spectacular view of the area and spot some of bird and wildlife of the area, these two weeks will blow you away!
Day 1
Today you'll arrive into Whitehorse. On the flight in you'll fly over the Canadian wilderness, checking out a view of the kind of thing you're in for on your adventure. You need to arrive in Whitehorse by 1pm today and we'll transfer you to the High Country Inn (accommodation included) where we meet for a pre departure meeting and meal together before heading off on our adventure tomorrow!

Day 2
This morning we head off on our journey to the river along the Alaska Highway. On the way we'll stop off on the way to visit Kwaday Dan Kenji, a traditional village where we'll find out about the way of life of people who have lived here for generations. We'll then carry on our drive, clearing immigration to get through to Säwahe where we'll get on the river for an short float down to the campsite.

Day 3
This morning we jump back on the river for our most contunuous section of the trip, through a narrow gorge and out into the broader Valley. At some point otday we'll be paddlng over the US border and back through into the Canadian Yukon. This afternoon we'll keep an eye out for a beautiful place to set up camp for the night.

Day 4
Today we'll work our way down the rivers as it meanders and is joined by tributaires to swell it's size and speed us along the way. We'll travel past oxbow lakes (for those of you who can remember your high school geography!), and is home to many of the animals of the area, moose, beaver, osprey and the famous bald eagle. Towards the afternoon we'll catch our first glimpses of the imposing Alsek range.

Day 5
Our first layover day! Although you probably not want to do much laying around! There are spectacular hikes to take, there's an open ridge nearby the camp that gives stunning views of the area, or for a more adventurous day you can hike up another 1000 metresto Goat Ridge, so named for the mountain goats that feed on the tundra on this high plateau.

Day 6
We're back on the river today, paddling past the Carmint peaks and the O'Connor River joins and swells the voume of the Tatshenshini again. Yet another beautiful campsite and delicious meal await later on in the day.

Day 7
On the river we pass by evidence of glacial action on the river banks, and keep your eye our for those larger Yukon animals, moose, goats and the impressive grizzly bear!

Day 8
We get our first glimpse of the many glaciers of the area today, 27 in total can be seen from our camp spot tonight at Melt Creek. What an incredible place to sped the night!

Day 9
Today we'll pass by the confluence of the Alsek and Tatshenshini Rivers which increases the volume and speed of the river yet again. This afternoon we'll meet the Walker Glacier and hike up onto it's impressive suface. From our camp if you listen carefully you'll be able to hear ice falls during the night, a wicked soundtrack to your evening!

Day 10
Soon after we're back on the river this morning we meet yet another huge glacier, the Novatak glacier, at six miles wide we'll get plenty of opportunity to get a good look as we paddle past. We finish the day on the river at the peninsular of land between the river and the Alsek lake, we camp in view of icebergs on the lake, picturesque campsite number 9!

Day 11
It's Layover day! We'll spend the day exploring the banks and waters of the Alsek Lake. Conditions permitting we can paddle through the 'berg studded lake over to the base of the Alsek and Grand Plateau Glaciers.

Day 12
Back on the river this morning we pass underneath 15,000 ft peaks to the Pacific coastline and the end of our trips. We reach Dry Bay this afternoon where we meet our plane that will fly us back to Whitehorse with spectacular views all the way back. We'll then transfer to the hotel for the night (included) for a celebratory meal back in 'civilisation'!

Day 13
After a wholesome breakfast and last goodbyes (for now!) we'll transfer you back to the airport for your flight home.
